The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) published a final rule to establish a new grant program that provides innovative transportation options to veterans in rural areas. The Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010 created the program, which awards grants to state veterans’ service agencies and organizations to provide vets in rural areas with transportation to VA medical centers and other medical care locations. The final rule establishes procedures for evaluating grant applications and administering the grant program, including monitoring and reporting requirements. The rule is effective May 2, 2013.
