Transportation Secretary Announces Departure

Yesterday, U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Ray LaHood announced that he would not serve a second term in the Obama Administration. He will remain in office until a successor is confirmed by the Senate.  The White House has not yet specified a timeline for choosing a successor, though news reports have named possible candidates to replace LaHood including Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, and chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, Debbie Hersman.
