President Obama Appoints New OMB Director

On January 17, President Obama appointed Jeffrey Zients to serve as acting director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). This will be Zients’s second turn as acting director. Prior to the appointment, he was deputy director for management and chief performance officer within the Office of the Management and Budget. He led last year’s review of plans to reorganize federal agencies and the drafting of contingency plans prior to last year’s potential government shutdown. The previous director, Jacob Lew was appointed earlier this month to White House Chief of Staff. The administration is expected to release its FY 2013 budget proposal on February 6.
