The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently provided states with a memorandum on the distribution of Hurricane Sandy Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) Supplemental Funds. The memo also included guidance on allowable activities, reporting requirements, filing a Notice of Federal Interest, obligating and expending funds, and grantee monitoring. Five states – Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island – received a total of $474.5 million in SSBG funds. The funds are allocated to states based on Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) Individual Assistance (IA) data collected. ACF will award up to half of each state’s fund allotment upon receiving the state’s initial SSBG Supplemental Funds pre-expenditure report, which should outline how the state will use the available funding for allowable activities and the timelines for execution and complete of these activities.
