The General Services Administration (GSA), a federal agency established to streamline the federal government’s administrative work, has several programs available to allow state and local governments to use GSA Schedules for select purchases. The Cooperative Purchasing program permits state and local entities, including school districts and universities, to use Schedule 70 to purchase Information Technology supplies and services and Schedule 84 to purchase supplies and services related to law enforcement and security. Last month, President Obama signed a Presidential Initiative aiming to makes schools safer “by enhancing their physical security and making sure they are prepared to respond to emergencies like a mass shooting,” as well as “creating safer and more nurturing school climates that help prevent school violence.” GSA is offering free training to state and local officials on how they can use its services to save money and take steps to enhance school safety.
