ED Issues Proposed Rule for Enhanced Assessment Grants

Last week, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) published proposed priorities, requirements, definitions, and selection criteria for the Enhanced Assessment Grants (EAG) program, which may be applicable for competitions using funds from fiscal 2012 and subsequent years. The EAG program provides funding to state educational agencies to enhance the quality of state elementary and secondary assessment instruments and systems. The notice proposes two new priorities to support states’ assessment activities in early learning, including kindergarten entry assessment and early learning collaborative efforts among states. Comments on the proposed regulations must be received by February 25, 2013.
