Congress Passes Violence Against Women Act

On February 28, the House passed the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (S 47) by a vote of 286 to 138. The Senate introduced the measure on January 22 and passed it by a vote of 78-22 on February 12. The law, which aims to reduce domestic violence and other violent acts, as well as assist victims of these crimes, functions mostly through awarding federal grants to states and localities, as well as nonprofit institutions.
