U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (FWS) at the Department of Interior (DOI) announced recently that $882.4 million was collected in excise tax revenues in 2012. The user-generated funds are available to all 50 states and territories for apportionment under the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration ($522.5 million) and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration ($359.9 million) programs. These apportionments have been reduced by 5.1 percent as a result of sequestration. For eligible projects, the FWS Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program reimburses up to 75 percent of the cost, with state fish and wildlife agencies making up the remainder of the costs (a minimum of 25 percent).
