Sunday, July 21 – Pre-Conference Networking Excursion
Registrants and guests will have the opportunity to tour the Alaska Native Heritage Center, a renowned cultural center and museum. An amazing interactive cultural experience, the Center provides an opportunity to explore the indigenous cultures of Alaska firsthand. Get an in-depth experience of their living cultures through storytelling, artist demonstrations, Native dance performances, Native games demonstrations, movies and more. Outside of the main facility, a meandering wooded path surrounding a picturesque lake guides visitors through six life-sized ancient dwellings representing the 11 culture groups of Alaska. Cultural representatives at each site, share how Alaska Native peoples thrived in a harsh and unforgiving climate, what their daily lives were like and how their cultures live today in a changing world. (Lunch is on your own.)
Sunday, July 21 – Welcome Reception
NASBO and the Alaska Office of Management & Budget are pleased to host a welcome reception at the Anchorage Museum. Attendees will have access to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History Arctic Studies Center. The center features more than 600 objects from the Smithsonian's collections that were selected and interpreted with help from Alaska Native advisers

Monday, July 22 – Guest Excursion
Enjoy a one hour drive along the breathtaking Turnagain Arm on your way to Portage. Upon arrival at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a staff member will board the motocoach and provide narration on your drive through the center. TheCenter provides refuge to orphaned, injured and ill animals and you will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy viewing areas with grizzly bears, black bears, buffalo, caribou, moose and more. An expansive gift shop awaits guests at the conclusion of the tour. (Lunch is on your own upon your return to Anchorage.)
This afternoon, enjoy a guided bike tour along paved downtown and coastal trails. Enjoy a visit to Earthquake Park and Point Woronzof overlooking the Anchorage International Airport. Those that venture further along the trail may encounter wildlife. Trek and Gary Fisher quality bikes, helmets and water will be provided. Groups will be split based on desired length of ride.
Tuesday, July 23 – Guest Excursion
Explore Anchorage with a 30 minute narrated driving tour of the city providing history and points of interest along the way. A guided tour at the Alaska Botanical Gardens will walk you through the lower and upper perennial gardens, rock garden, Herb Garden and Wildflower Trail. Following the garden tour, enjoy a special tour of the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery, a state of the art facility that reduces pressure on wild fish stocks, increases sport-fishing opportunity, and provide diversity in sport fisheries throughout interior Alaska. (Lunch is on your own)
In the afternoon, guests can enjoy free time at the Captain Cook pool or in downtown Anchorage shopping for souvenirs.
Tuesday, July 23 – Awards Dinner
Registrants and guests will attend the Awards Dinner at Alyeska Resort, located along the scenic Seward Highway nestled against the awe-inspiring Chugach Mountains. NASBO will present national awards for excellence in state budgeting.
Business casual attire is recommended for today’s activities. NASBO also recommends that attendees bring a light jacket.
Wednesday, July 24 – Networking Excursion
Registrants and guests will have the opportunity to experience Alaska's breathtaking scenery in the Prince William Sound. A national park ranger will narrate a 5 hour glacier cruise, taking attendees into Harriman Fjod to view alpine, piedmont and tidewater glaciers. Wildlife is also abundant.
On our trip we will also be joined by representatives from Alaska who will briefly discuss the state's natural resources and energy initiatives.
Lunch will be served on the tour and you must select your meal in advance: either wild Alaskan Cod fish and chips; Turkey, Ham and Monterey Jack sandwich; or Vegetarian Lasagna Florentine. The kids meal includes a hotdog, fruit cup and chips.

NASBO is pleased to offer meeting participants an option of booking pre or post conference excursions with Logistics. This local destination management company helps visitors plan multi-day trips or single activities. View options or contact a Logistics staff member at 907-276-6060 to discuss individual reservations. NASBO is not coordinating any specific activities before or after those listed on the agenda. All costs for these trips are the sole responsibility of the attendee.
Some options include: flightseeing trips, overnight in Denali National Park, fishing trips, glacier hikes, dogsledding excursions, Alaska Railroad trips, and more.
